✍️ Rupesh Patil…
Dear Readers,
In today’s era, one of the most widely discussed terms is ‘Gen-Z’! Growing up in a rapidly advancing technological age, this generation is known for making its own decisions, questioning things, thinking beyond traditional boundaries, and not readily accepting everything told to them by others. However, leadership that truly understands this generation and knows how to channel its energy towards constructive and national interests is indeed rare!
Against this backdrop, Sandeep Eknath Gawde, Zilla Parishad member and a young leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, must be viewed as a face that understands the pulse of the youth, communicates with them and is committed to directing their energy towards positive pursuits.
“Gen-Z should not merely be understood; their potential must be brought into the stream of nation-building!” With this thought, the tagline ‘Gen-Z With Bharat’, introduced by Sandeep Gawde for this year’s Sundarwadi Dahi Handi Festival, did not remain merely an attractive slogan; rather, it became the ideological identity of the entire celebration.
And therefore, the Sundarwadi Dahi Handi celebrated on Saturday was not merely a festival of Govinda human pyramids and revelry. It became a unique confluence of youth energy, culture, national spirit, entertainment and constructive thought.
Along with the height of the Dahi Handi layers, the height of thoughts also rose!
The Sundarwadi Dahi Handi witnessed the enthusiastic participation of thousands of young people from Sawantwadi and surrounding villages. Whenever there is a festival, excitement, music, thrill and entertainment naturally follow. However, through Sandeep Gawde’s vision, this celebration was given an additional dimension—a thoughtful and meaningful perspective.
To truly connect with young minds, speeches alone are not enough; one has to communicate with them in their own language. Recognising this very aspect, popular actor and comedian Kushal Badrike, known for Chala Hawa Yeu Dya!, was invited as a special guest.
Kushal Badrike’s arrival filled the atmosphere with laughter and enthusiasm. Yet Sandeep Gawde added a message of struggle, determination and success to this entertaining interaction.
Kushal Badrike too went beyond comedy and directly connected with Gen-Z, conveying the positive message that “If we decide to achieve something, we can accomplish anything.” His journey of struggle, his efforts towards success and his determination to overcome adversity reached the young audience as an inspiring message.
Taking the microphone, Sandeep Gawde spoke effectively about the approach that today’s youth should adopt to move towards success while preserving Konkan’s identity, culture and their bond with the soil of their homeland. Thus, this interaction, which began with laughter and entertainment, became a moment of inspiration for many young minds.

The valour of the Shivaji-era martial arts awakened the history of bravery!
The thrilling presentation of Shiv-era traditional martial arts at the Sundarwadi Dahi Handi Festival became a spectacular visual treat for everyone present.
The rhythm of swords, the leaps of bravery, the determination of the Mavalas and the breathtaking display of skill brought alive the glorious and valiant era of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the hearts of the audience.
These martial arts also conveyed an important message—that a battle cannot be won through physical strength alone. Courage must be accompanied by patience, intelligence, self-confidence and control over one’s mind. This message is perhaps even more significant for today’s young generation.
The message of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ gave a new height of social unity to the Govinda pyramids!

Dahi Handi is a festival where layers upon layers are formed to reach towards the sky. Yet hidden within these human pyramids is a beautiful social message—one cannot reach the summit alone; only by holding each other’s hands can we achieve greater heights!
This very spirit was beautifully complemented by the philosophy of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’.
The salutes and performances by various Govinda groups created a wave of excitement throughout the venue. At the same time, the guidance of dignitaries present at the programme—including BJP District President Prabhakar Sawant, Women’s District President Shweta Korgaonkar, Zilla Parishad President Pramod Kamat, and senior leader Vinod Raul—added an ideological dimension to the celebration.
Prabhakar Sawant and Shweta Korgaonkar praised the Sundarwadi Dahi Handi while appreciating Sandeep Gawde’s various constructive initiatives.
Senior leader Vinod Raul, meanwhile, referred to Sandeep Gawde as the “future President of the Sindhudurg Zilla Parishad” and expressed confidence that the party leadership would certainly take note of his work.
“Our real Gen-Z is our Govinda!” – Sandeep Gawde wins the hearts of the youth
The most attention-grabbing moment of the entire festival was undoubtedly Sandeep Gawde’s address!
Describing the Govindas as “our real Gen-Z,” he spoke about the role of youth power in today’s times. What responsibility does today’s young generation carry in the development of the nation? How can the power of technology in their hands be used for constructive purposes? What is the role of youth power in shaping the future of society and the nation?
He touched upon all these questions through his address.
His speech was not merely a speech; it was a direct conversation with the minds of the youth.
He connected with their emotions, understood their dreams and conveyed a message of giving those very dreams a direction towards nation-building. Therefore, even after Sandeep Gawde’s address came to an end, there is little doubt that its thoughts continued to resonate in the minds of many young people.
A heartfelt shower of honour and recognition at the festival!
Another remarkable aspect of the Sundarwadi Dahi Handi was the spirit of “respecting everyone and recognising everyone’s contribution.”
Senior citizens, young office-bearers, activists, journalists, artists, members of Govinda groups, as well as individuals who have made notable contributions in the fields of social service, education, sports, spirituality and culture, were duly honoured.
What was particularly noteworthy was that Sandeep Gawde personally invited each individual onto the stage and honoured them himself.
This gesture highlighted the warmth, sensitivity and respect for the contribution of colleagues that characterise his working style.

The festival lasted only a day, but the flame of its thoughts will continue to burn for a long time!
Sandeep Gawde’s work is not confined merely to a single Dahi Handi celebration. His consistent efforts to undertake something new, constructive and socially beneficial in the fields of education, sports and culture across Sindhudurg are clearly reflected in his work.
From providing schools with infrastructure facilities and solar panels to distributing devotional materials to Bhajan groups that preserve Konkan’s cultural identity, and introducing the ‘Yashwant Scholarship Scheme’ to encourage students’ intellectual development, he has created a distinct identity through various initiatives.
While working in the political arena as a close associate of BJP State President Ravindra Chavan, Sandeep Gawde’s continuous involvement in the social and cultural fields represents another distinctive aspect of his journey.
Sundarwadi Dahi Handi—the ‘Pride’ of Sawantwadi… and the ‘Emotional Connect’ in the hearts of Gen-Z!
In the end, one question remains—why did the Sundarwadi Dahi Handi become so special this year?
Because this year, not only did the Dahi Handi rise higher, but the height of thought also rose!
There was entertainment, but it was accompanied by awareness.
There were martial arts performances, but they awakened history.
There were Govinda human pyramids, but they conveyed a message of unity.
Artists came, but they brought inspiration drawn from struggle.
And most importantly, Gen-Z came—but they did not return merely as spectators; they returned carrying thoughts with them!
Therefore, it would not be an exaggeration to say that Sundarwadi’s Dahi Handi became the ‘Pride’ of Sawantwadi this year, while young leader Sandeep Gawde became the ‘Emotional Connect’ in the hearts of Gen-Z.
May many more initiatives that give constructive direction to youth power, raise the banner of Konkan’s culture and strengthen the bond of social commitment continue to take shape through Sandeep Gawde in the coming years.
May his efforts reach new heights of success, and may his work continue to inspire the young generation of Sindhudurg with a new vision!
This is our humble prayer at the holy feet of Shri Dev Patekar and Shri Dev Uparalkar!
